About ASCCJ
Today’s media and communication landscape is more complex and rapidly evolving than ever before. Comprehensive schools of communication and journalism are challenged with aligning their programs with this ever-evolving climate while also meeting the management needs of large organizations.
ASCCJ is the only organization of its kind—one that is specifically focused on the largest and most comprehensive academic communication and journalism schools and colleges, in an effort to foster collaboration and strengthen these fields.
We bring together our member schools to foster collaboration, share data and management practices, and address emerging issues to enable deans and directors to make informed decisions to the advantage of their institutions. This collaboration helps schools benchmark themselves within their fields and provide evidence-based support for management decisions.
ASCCJ was launched in 2018 and is tailored to serve the specialized requirements of our nation’s largest institutions of journalism and communication as they endeavor to serve their students and advance the field.
Our Activities
Fostering Collaboration
We bring together leadership from across our member schools at an annual in-person Forum focused on finding collaboration on the most pressing issues facing the fields of communication and journalism.
We host virtual meetings and informal in-person gatherings aligned with the largest academic conferences.
We facilitate regular communication between deans and directors to allow for real-time coordination on emerging issues.
Empowering Data Sharing
We collect and aggregate data from across our member schools to facilitate decision-making and benchmarking.
We maintain a faculty directory that can be used to identify areas of collaboration or staff sits visits
Advancing Expertise
We organize topic-based committees that meet virtually 2-3 times per semester for informal collaboration and peer networking. Committees include:
